I’ve been publishing the Durham Skywriter, “Durham NC’s online community paper,” since 2002 and have hosted “TV Skywriter,” my interview program, since 2013. I thoroughly enjoy conducting interviews and also make microdocumentary videos. Topics usually concentrate on local nonprofits, Durham history, and subjects of local interest, for example: police/community relations.
“Bull City Notes” started out as a 5-minute daily show on Facebook/YouTube/Twitter; it consisted of announcements of the day’s events. Since the beginning of COVID-19, I expanded the show, inviting guests to join me on camera to share information and promote themselves on what’s now called “Bull City Hangout.”
Before hosting “TV Skywriter,” which I consider a more-or-less “formal” interview show, I hosted a weekly interview program, “Radio Skywriter,” from 2002 to 2013 on NPR affiliate WNCU 90.7fm (broadcasting from North Carolina Central University). I got my start in media by publishing the South Side Scoop in Chicago from 1993 to 2000 and by hosting a public affairs show on WHPK (University of Chicago community radio station) from 1997 to 2000.
